Services We Provide
Lend A Hand of Boulder City provides transportation, in-home services, companionship, and equipment loan to the senior (60+) and disabled residents of Boulder City. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for our clients by showing them someone cares, while also relieving their stress about getting to appointments on time or stretching their sometimes already limited budgets.
Clients are not charged fees for the services provided by Lend A Hand, although they are welcome to make a donation if they wish.
Transportation Services
Transportation requests currently make up the bulk of the service requests we receive at Lend a Hand. Clients appreciate the one-on-one experience they receive with our volunteers and the camaraderie that can form because of the personal service they receive. Our services include:
- Personalized round-trip service by volunteers
- Drivers available to stay with client
- Transportation to medical appointments throughout the Las Vegas Valley
- Transportation for local errands, such as grocery shopping, banking, etc. in Boulder City
In-Home Services
In-Home services offer additional support for our clients with pre-existing health conditions or mobility limitations. Our volunteers can offer assistance and respite to primary caregivers, or to help a client with some of the tasks they may be having difficulty with because of changing health conditions or due to a temporary injury. Our services can include:
- Reassurance calls
- Respite for caregivers
- Arranging appointments
- Light meal preparation
- Light housekeeping
- Laundry
- Changing bed linens, making beds
- Minor home repair – light bulbs, HVAC air filters, etc.
Companionship
Our companionship services offer wonderful opportunities for clients who may have recently lost a spouse or loved one, or who due to changing circumstances no longer have their previous ability to engage in the activities they enjoy. Our volunteers will come to the clients’ home to spend time with them and help them reconnect with the social experiences that may be missing from their current routines. These services can include:
- Conversation and visitation either inside or outside
- Walking or exercising
- Pet walking
- Reading or watching television
Equipment Loans
We regularly receive mobility or assistive equipment through the generosity of our local community members. Please consider reaching out to our offices before purchasing any of this equipment as we may have the item you need available to borrow for free. There is no charge to borrow any of our equipment, you may use it for as long as you need, and you don’t need to be a client to benefit from our inventory. Examples of available equipment include:
- Canes/Crutches
- Walkers: 2 or 4-wheeled (i.e. rollators w/ a seat)
- Wheelchairs: transfer or standard (w/ the wheel rails for self-propulsion)
- Shower chairs or benches
- Toilet seat risers or portable commodes
- Bed rails, grabbers, and sock or leg aid devices
We also sometimes receive supplies of adult protective undergarments or bed liners, so please free to give us a call at the Lend A Hand of Boulder City office at (702) 294–2363 before purchasing in case we can provide assistance in this regard. You can also call if you have questions about a particular item you are considering donating, and our friendly staff can help direct you to the appropriate beneficiary of your gift.
Services FAQ’s
If you are a Boulder City resident who is 60 years of age or older, or if you are younger than 60 and disabled with disability documents, you are eligible to request an appointment with our staff to see if our services match your needs. When you complete your new client registration, you are then eligible to request services.
Services are provided by volunteers who are screened for security and receive initial training about program requirements, senior needs, and how to effectively serve our clients. Refresher training is provided annually.
Generally, our service calls are an hour minimum, but some requests such as changing a light bulb may take less time.
It’s easy to become a client. Contact the Lend A Hand office to request an assessment either by sending us an email through our Contact Page (located here) or by calling (702) 294-2363. A staff member will telephone or visit you at home to discuss your needs and how we may be able to help you. If our services match your needs, we will be glad to register you as a Lend A Hand client, after which you will be able to telephone our office to arrange for services.
